Academics at SIS
SIS teaches KG 1 to Grade 12. The American pathway runs the whole way to the High School Diploma; the British pathway runs from Grade 7 to IGCSE and A Level.
KG 1 to Grade 5: one homeroom teacher for each class
Early Learning runs from KG 1 to KG 3, and Elementary from Grade 1 to Grade 5. In both stages, one homeroom teacher leads each class, and boys and girls learn together.
Every child follows the American pathway in these years. The focus is on:
- Reading, writing and number, step by step
- From Grade 1, English and mathematics aligned with the Common Core State Standards
- Learning by asking questions and finding out
- Social and emotional growth
- Arabic and Islamic Studies, in line with Ministry of Education requirements
Grade 6 to Grade 12: a specialist teacher for each subject
Middle School runs from Grade 6 to Grade 9, and High School from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Specialist teachers take each subject, and boys and girls learn in separate sections.
The American pathway continues to Grade 12, and the British pathway starts in Grade 7. Subjects include:
- English, mathematics, sciences and social studies
- ICT, business, economics and the humanities
- Arabic and Islamic Studies, in line with Ministry of Education requirements
- Research, problem-solving and academic writing

The American pathway
- KG 1 to Grade 12

- SAT test centre and Advanced Placement (AP) courses
The British pathway
- Grade 7 to Grade 12
- Cambridge Checkpoint in Grade 8
- IGCSE in Grades 9–10, then AS and A Level in Grades 11–12
- Exams with Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA
After Grade 12: university guidance
Counsellors help each student choose universities and courses, and prepare applications through UCAS, the Common App and other systems.
